BIG NEWS: Canada Announces Update for International Students!

Canada Study Permit Approval

The immigration minister of Canada, Marco Mendicino, announced an update for international students on 22nd September 2020. He stated 2 important revelations on that day while providing the study permit updates through a webinar.

Mendicino said that Canada had already approved 56,000 study permit applications of the first stage. Moreover, Marco Mendicino gave a confirmation stating that the Canadian government, being led by Health Canada, is constantly looking forward to work with DLIs (Designated Learning Institutions) in order to make out ways in which they can let the international students physically enter into their campuses whilst the currently ongoing COVID-19 epidemic.

As per the opinion of Mendicino, Minister Patty Hajdu is dedicatedly functioning to make sure that every designated learning institution (DLI) is complying with the public health requisites of the particular province or territory where they are situated. This positive approach is aimed to safeguard the health & safety of international students as well as Canadian students.

DLIs are nothing but universities, colleges, and other educational institutions which have bagged approval from federal and provincial government to let international students get enrolled. Some of these designated learning institutions are known to show willingness and interest to welcome international students during the covid-19 epidemic. Nonetheless, because of the travel restrictions imposed by Canada, most of the international students are currently not able to visit the country to study in Canada.

It is being taken into sincere consideration whether or not the DLIs will be able to safely follow quarantine & social distancing plans which can let them possibly allow international students to physically study in their campus within the next few months.

According to Canada’s law, most of the travelers are required to quarantine for 14 days as soon as they arrive in Canada. Furthermore, Canadian provinces & territories are passing strict social distancing measures and putting in place stringent guidelines for the purpose of curbing the spread of COVID-19. However, Canada’s corona virus cases have been on a tremendous rise in the recent times.

Meanwhile, Canada has stated and introduced numerous reforms in their existing policies to help international students in pursuing and completing their Canadian studies during the corona virus outbreak. Amongst these reforms, a 2-stage Canada study permit process was started to provide the students an opportunity to begin with their studies while they are outside Canada.

Amongst these reforms, a 2-stage Canada study permit process was started to provide the students an opportunity to begin with their studies while they are outside Canada.

It was told by the minister that 56,000 international students received approvals for a Canada student visa under the purview of stage one as of now. Henceforth, this clearly shows that Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has given international students an approval only after detailed assessment of all of the applicants’ letter of acceptance, evidence of financial stability showing that they can carry out the expenses for themselves and their studies.

After the students will be able to arrive in Canada, they will be required to appear for and clear a medical exam, criminal background check, and biometrics for receiving an approval. Immigration minister Mendicino assured that Canada is consistently committed to welcoming of international talent from around the world.
